App
Why do some electrodes turn white during the recording even after applying gel?
This is often due to the GND and REF electrodes losing contact shortly after the start of the recording. This issue is common with users who are still getting used to the system. If this happens, conduct a short 3–4 minute test recording, then review the impedance screen. If signal quality looks fine, proceed with the recording.
How do I keep track of which electrodes I’ve gelled?
It's helpful to use a systematic approach (e.g., front to back or left to right) and watch for color changes in the app, which indicate contact status.
What if one or more electrodes won’t turn green even after cleaning and gelling?
If an electrode refuses to register despite proper preparation, continue recording. Check the impedance plot on the cloud afterward. If black is shown or it's GND/REF showing problems, the electrode may be faulty. Reach out to support to understand if the cap might need replacement
Can I use ultrasound gel as a substitute?
No. Ultrasound gel does not provide the necessary conductivity for EEG recordings, and using it could compromise signal quality and diagnostic accuracy.
What types of things should be reported using the event button or free notes during a recording?
Document any notable patient activity, environmental disruptions, or technical problems. These annotations are crucial for interpreting EEG results accurately.
If the patient is uncooperative, should I continue or stop the recording?
Do not force the patient. Try to record what you can, and document their behavior. Emphasize the importance of cooperation during training.
What if I think a seizure is happening during recording?
Immediately annotate using the app and write detailed notes in the free-text area. Describe what you observe to support clinical interpretation later, and follow your clinic's guidelines.
What should I do if the app crashes or freezes mid-recording?
If more than 20 minutes of data has been captured, restart the app and upload the recording. If less than 20 minutes, it’s better to start over. Raise a support ticket at https://braincapture.dk/support to help prevent this in the future
Why can’t I upload the recording? How do I confirm it uploaded?
Check that the recording shows "Uploaded" in the recording list after upload. Make sure you have a reliable internet connection and avoid closing the app too soon.
What should I do if I cannot log in to the BrainCapture cloud on my phone?
If login on your phone fails, try first logging in via a desktop browser. This allows you to accept terms and set your password. After this initial setup, you should be able to log in from the phone as well.
How can I install the BrainCapture app on an Android phone?
First, sign in to the phone with a Google account. If it’s a new account, contact BrainCapture support to get it whitelisted. Then use the provided QR code to install the app. Make sure you're using a supported phone model.
What does the green impedance indicator mean?
It means that electrode impedance is below the set threshold (around 10 kΩ).
What causes the “BrainCapture isn’t responding” message to appear during recording?
This message usually indicates that the app is struggling with memory or responsiveness—often triggered by long recordings, multiple dialog windows, or background processes. Despite the warning, if data continues to be saved, you can finish the session and upload afterward.
Does the app show a warning if the recording has poor electrode connectivity?
A red light will blink if the contact quality worsens during recording. However, if you begin recording with poor impedance, the system assumes the user is aware and does not alert immediately.

When I look at the recording list, some recent recordings have dissapeared. Have I lost them?
Recordings that have been already uploaded to the clouded will be deleted after 3 days, to preserve space and for data privacy reasons.

Cap
Why is the labelling on BrainCapture’s electrodes different from traditional EEG systems?
BrainCapture follows the 2017 IFCN guidelines, which differ from the classic 10–20 system. This includes positions like P7/P8 and extra electrodes.
Can the cap be sterilised?
No. The BC-cap is non-sterile. Clean with water, spray with 75% alcohol (avoid the connector), and air dry. Do not use strong disinfectants or sterilization equipment.
Can the cap be used for neonates or infants with a 40 cm head circumference?
Currently, the smallest supported head circumference is 42 cm. The system is not approved for use on neonates or smaller infants.
What should I do if a patient’s head size is on the border between cap sizes?
Choose the smaller size for a more secure and snug fit.
What should I do if T9 and T10 electrodes won’t stay in place?
Try tightening the chinstrap slightly. If they still won’t hold, continue the recording without them and make a note.
What should I do if two electrode channels are not working despite scrubbing and applying gel?
Confirm that the connector is fully clicked into place. If the problem persists, the issue may be with the electrodes. Test on another subject or replace the cap.
How do I clean the cap after each use?
Use the included small brush and rinse with water to remove gel from each electrode. Avoid using strong disinfectants or submerging the connector.
One of our caps consistently shows poor connection on a specific channel (i.e. T8) — what should we do?
Repeated poor contact on a specific electrode may indicate a physical defect. Try the cap on different patients and verify electrode contact. If the problem persists across recordings, the cap should be replaced or repaired.
Amplifier
Can BrainCapture be used for neurofeedback?
BrainCapture is designed primarily for routine diagnostic EEG. Contact BrainCapture to discuss the potential for neurofeedback based on your particular use case.
What if the amplifier stops sending data?
Confirm whether the amplifier is plugged into a wall outlet—if it is, it will not send data. Also check if the amplifier is within a few meters from the phone, the bluetooth might be disconnected.
Cloud
Why does a recording sometimes appear in multiple cloud sections (e.g., both “In Review” and “Interpretation Ready”)?
This is usually a display caching issue. The cloud interface does not automatically refresh all sections. Use the refresh button above each table to reload its contents, or refresh the entire page.
What does it mean if the impedance plot is missing from a completed upload?
Missing impedance plots are typically caused by incomplete uploads. Even if the recording is visible, the impedance data may not have been fully transferred. Try re-uploading the recording.
When downloading a file from the cloud on a slow internet connection, it looks like nothing is happening. Is the file really downloading?
Yes, the file is downloading in the background. Currently, there's no progress indicator during download, especially on slow connections. An update is planned to improve this behavior.
Persyst/Reading software
Can BrainCapture’s .edf files be opened in software other than Persyst?
Yes. BrainCapture uses a standard .edf file format that is compatible with other EEG viewing software. If there are issues opening the files, contact the third-party software provider.
Can I change the EEG montage after recording?
Yes, the montage is fully customizable in Persyst, allowing you to adjust electrode arrangements as needed.
How do I make comments and time appear at the bottom of the screen in Persyst again?
Go to the General Preferences menu in Persyst. Under EEG Page – EEG Display, make sure the Comments checkbox is selected.
Can I fix the ECG sensitivity setting in Persyst so I don’t have to adjust it every time?
Currently, ECG sensitivity must be adjusted manually for each session. The software does not retain this setting across patients.
Can I transfer my Persyst license to another computer?
License transfers are not direct. Contact BrainCapture or Persyst support to issue a new license for your new machine. Be sure to deactivate the old one if possible.
I got a Persyst license error—what should I do?
License issues can stem from expired keys, incorrect machine bindings, or trial limits. Contact BrainCapture or Persyst to request a reissue or new license. Always deactivate old keys before switching devices.
Training
What if it’s been a long time since I had training and I feel unsure what to do?
You can revisit your knowledge using the BrainCapture Academy e-learning platform. It’s designed to help refresh your memory and reinforce proper procedures.
